Bertrand Chaffee Hospital Welcomes Radiologists Dr. Mark Fenzl and Dr. Howard Stoll

Bertrand Chaffee Hospital is pleased to announce that Dr. Mark Fenzl and Dr. Howard Stoll will be leading Bertrand Chaffee’s Imaging Department, effective March 30.

Dr. Fenzl joined the radiology practice his father founded, Southtowns Radiology, in 1993 where he worked until 2007. At that time, he and his childhood friend Dr. Howard Stoll co-founded Juniper Radiology, where they worked at TLC Lakeshore Hospital and Chautauqua MRI in Irving, NY.

Dr. Fenzl completed medical school at the State University of New York at Buffalo, followed by internship with Millard Fillmore Hospital and diagnostic radiology residency at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr. Fenzl is board-certified in Diagnostic Radiology by the American Board of Radiology. He is a proud, life-long Southtowns resident, where he and his wife raised four children.

Dr. Stoll completed medical school at the State University of New York at Buffalo, internship at Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, nuclear medicine residency at the State University of New York at Buffalo and radiology residency at the University of Virginia – Charlottesville. Dr. Stoll is board-certified by the American College of Radiology. He is a life-long Southtowns resident, where he and his wife raised three children.

Visitor Restrictions at Jennie B. Richmond Nursing Home

Please take note of the following memo from Allysa Olsen, Administrator, Jennie B. Richmond Nursing Home:


Effective March 12, 2020, due to the current state of Coronvirus (COVID-19), as well as under the guidance of the Center for Disease Control and NYS Department of Health, visitors will not be allowed at Jennie B. Richmond Nursing Home, unless it is for medical necessity. To facilitate communication between our residents and their families and loved ones, we are encouraging the utilization of alternate means of communication such as phone calls, Facetime, Skype, etc. Our facility has set up multiple laptops in order to facilitate e-communication. This will continue until further notice.


We want to emphasize and reassure our community that there are currently no suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19 at Jennie B. Richmond Nursing Home (as well as Bertrand Chaffee Hospital), but we are instituting this policy to further prevent outside exposure and the potential spread of illness in order to protect our residents. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time.

Bertrand Chaffee Hospital Hosts Two-Day Diabetes Bootcamp in March

Bertrand Chaffee Hospital will host a Diabetes Bootcamp March 14, 8am until 2pm (lunch provided), and March 15 8am until 12pm. Participants will learn everything they need to know about diabetes in one weekend.

This two-day accredited diabetes education program will cover topics such as: Healthy Eating, Being Active, Medications, Monitoring, Long-term Risks, Hyper- and Hypoglycemia, and Health Coping.

Those interested must preregister for this program by March 11, no walk-ins will be accepted. An in-person or phone interview is required before attending the program. For more information or to register, please call (716) 592-9643.

REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE CATTARAUGUS COUNTY TOWN HIGHWAY SUPERINTENDENTS ASSOCIATION PRESENT GIFTS FOR THE YOUNGEST EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT PATIENTS AT BERTRAND CHAFFEE HOSPITAL

The Cattaraugus County Town Highway Supervisors Association delivered a supply of new toys and stuffed animals for the Bertrand Chaffee Hospital Emergency Department on December 17. Staff in the ED gives out toys to its youngest patients and visitors. The Association also collected toys during the holiday season to deliver to Olean General Hospital, Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services, the Ronald McDonald House in Buffalo, and the John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo.

Bertrand Chaffee Hospital Announces Office Opening of WNY Pediatric Endocrinology

Bertrand Chaffee Hospital is pleased to announce the opening of WNY Pediatric Endocrinology’s newest location at Bertrand Chaffee Hospital on Wednesday, August 28. Their doctors are both certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics in Pediatric Endocrinology and have over 10 years of experience treating patients.

Nadezhda (Nadia) Danilovich, MD graduated from Gomel State Medial Institute in Belarus and completed her residency and fellowship at Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo. She is a member of the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Pediatric Endocrinology.

Shannon Fournter, MD graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and completed her residency at Children’s Hospital of Buffalo and her fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She is a member of the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Pediatric Endocrinology.

Bertrand Chaffee Hospital Welcomes Dr. Salvatore Calandra

The Bertrand Chaffee Heart Center is pleased to announce that Dr. Salvatore Calandra will be joining the Heart Center in early May.

Dr. Salvatore Calandra, MD is a Board Certified Cardiologist who has been practicing in the WNY area for the last 28 years. He was a partner with the Cardiology Group of WNY for 26 years and Director of the Cardiac Cath Lab and Intervention for the Catholic Health System for 17 years. He presently is the Director of Cardiology for Mobile Healthcare Partners/Mobile Primary Care. Recently, he has joined the cardiology team at ECMC.

“We need to strive to educate individuals to be proactive in their cardiac and vascular health and to educate our patients to recognize the warning signs and symptoms of heart disease and stroke,” said Calandra. “Time is of the essence to get to a doctor or seek medical attention.”

Bertrand Chaffee Hospital accepts donation from VFW Post 5260

Ally Olsen graciously  accepted a $1,000 donation from the Felton Burns VFW Post 5260 on behalf of Bertrand Chaffee Hospital. The donation will be used to purchase a bariatric wheelchair for use on the Medical Unit of the hospital. The members of the local VFW expressed interest in donating to the hospital because it is something that we all use from time to time. We thank them for this generous donation.

JBR Welcomes Olsen as New Administrator

March 11, 2019 – SPRINGVILLE, NY  — The Jennie B. Richmond Nursing Home has announced it has hired a new administrator, Allysa L. Olsen, to manage operations for the 80-bed facility in Springville.

Olsen brings to the Jennie B. a background in social work and crisis counseling. She has experience in assisted living, long-term care and sub-acute rehabilitation facilities in Western New York, specializing in admissions and discharge processes as well as advocating for resident rights and needs. She earned a Long-term Care Administration Certificate from D’Youville College, and a Master of Social Work and Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University at Buffalo. The South Buffalo native began work on March 11.

“I’m eager to meet the residents and staff at the Jennie B.,” said Olsen. “JBR is a treasured part of Springville and I look forward to maintaining its tradition of quality long-term nursing care and short-term rehab services.”

“Allysa has a wealth of social work experience,” said Bertrand Chaffee Hospital CEO Nils Gunnersen. “We’re looking for her to continue our focus on residents’ medical, social and emotional needs.”
